Our approach to environmental sustainability
At Softcat, we look both inward at our own operations and outward to our supply chain and customers. We focus on how we can work together to further reduce our environmental impact.
We are committed to our assured Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Net Zero ambition for 2040 and proud to be a participant in the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Since our 2021 baseline year, we have achieved continued decoupling of emissions from revenue growth.
We work hard to reduce emissions within our control. Key initiatives include 100% renewable electricity across all our locations, the installation of 300+ solar panels at our Marlow HQ, a fully electric company car fleet, and mandatory employee climate education. In addition, we continue to work with our value chain to improve our collective net-zero position.

S3: Our framework for environmental sustainability
Operating sustainably requires
us to connect our internal
strategy, our supply chain, and
the solutions we offer to our
customers.
We do that via the
S3 framework.

To meet the world’s growing demand for technology, we must also address the power, cooling, and resources it requires. For Softcat, this means approaching challenges with honesty and open dialogue across our industry. We work hand-in-hand with customers and partners, encouraging them to engage their suppliers, guided by our S3 Sustainability Framework. Our commitment is to redouble our efforts, facing obstacles head-on and seeking solutions that move us closer to a more sustainable future.

Working with our supply chain
As the majority of Softcat’s emissions sit within its supply chain, working closely with our suppliers is critical to achieving our ambitious sustainability targets. We have established a range of frameworks to ensure partners actively support our sustainability journey.
As part of this ongoing work, Softcat has also introduced a supply chain nature-based partnership programme – Nature Connect. This is designed to create bi-directional value, strengthening collaboration between suppliers and customers while driving meaningful environmental outcomes.

Supporting our customer's journey
As technology cycles shorten, organisations face rising costs, energy use, and e-waste. We partner with customers to deliver solutions that reduce environmental impact while driving measurable cost and efficiency benefits.
During the in-life stage, Softcat optimises performance through reporting, asset management, certified Carbon Neutral services, and life-extension and circular solutions that reduce energy consumption and extend asset life. At end of use, assets are assessed for reuse and value recovery. Where reuse isn’t viable, certified IT Asset Disposal (ITAD) ensures secure data sanitisation, regulatory compliance, and zero landfill outcomes.
Softcat has an ambition to recover one kilogram of IT hardware for every kilogram sold by 2034 - supported by our Sustainability team and the wider business.
