#MyLifeAtSoftcat - Nina Webhra, Business Analyst

Nina W

Tell us about yourself?

I joined Softcat in 2021 on their Tech Starter Programme, after a 20-year career break! All I can say is that time flies when you have children - I have 4! When my youngest started secondary school, I decided it was time to return to the world of work. It wasn't easy getting back after such a long break, but I'm thankful to have landed a role here at Softcat.

What is your current role?

Business Analyst

What drew you to apply at Softcat?

Initially I was drawn to Softcat's Tech Starter Programme which was advertised for women returners. It was perfect for me as it offered training and reskilling in a highly supported environment. After some research into the company, apart from its great culture I was also happy to see that Softcat had an excellent Diversity & Inclusion policy, and it also cared greatly about our planet, taking its responsibility on sustainability very seriously and was actively promoting these.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself at the start of the recruitment process?

Understanding what the role is about, and not dismissing yourself if there are a few requirements/desired skills you can't tick - most candidates don't!  The background research is important and always a good starting point. Research the company well, check out the social media posts, what are people saying about Softcat? Do these align with your personal beliefs and values?

How has your Softcat experience been so far and is there anything you’d like to share with us which has been a highlight in your career?

It’s been friendly, supportive and fun. These are just a few words to describe Softcat’s culture. Having started during the pandemic, I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but from day one I was made to feel very welcomed and everyone I’ve met and worked with since have been great. In short, I’ve had a fantastic experience with everything at Softcat, and it has become clear how much they invest in each individual to ensure that they are on the right career development path.

If you have moved in your role whether that is within the team or inter departmental, could you please share your experience about the support that you have been given?

Every team I was in has been brilliant. Every manager has been supportive and helpful, taking the time to listen and ensure that the work assigned was suitable for me. They made sure I was on the right track with my training and development needs and enrolled in the appropriate courses.

What advice would you give someone thinking about joining Softcat?

Everything you may have heard or read about Softcat is true. It has a great culture and provides every employee with the opportunity to develop and succeed in their careers by offering support and relevant courses. Softcat also allows employees to move to other departments if they want to try something new.

Are you a part of any community currently?

Yes, I’m part of the Ethnic and Cultural Diversity community.

What do you enjoy the most about being part of this community?

Its great being part of the network. I get to learn about and appreciate the different cultures and the people who represent them at Softcat. There are regular sessions and celebrations in offices.  I am also part of the Supporting Women in Business (SWIB)  network where we celebrate women in tech and their achievements. It also provides a safe space where we can talk about anything.

What are you most proud of in your time at Softcat so far?

The Tech Starter Programme feels like it was a long time ago, but it was instrumental in helping me reach my current career position. This progress was also made possible thanks to the support and guidance of my wonderful manager and team colleagues. I am excited to see where my career journey at Softcat will take me next.
