With the launch of SQL Server 2022 Microsoft have confirmed that a price increase of 10% to SQL Server licensing will be applied on Jan 1, 2023. This will impact all SQL on-premise SKUs, including Software Assurance.

All channels and Volume Licence programmes will be affected globally, including SQL server subscriptions purchased via CSP.

Microsoft are quick to make the point that this is the “first substantive change to the list price since SQL Server 2012”. Notably, there will be no change to the metered cost of running Azure SQL Database.

Please contact your Softcat account manager to arrange a review of your current SQL licensing position, assess the commercial impact to you and any options available to mitigate the increase.
