On 21 March 2019, at a black-tie event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, Softcat was presented with the Company of the Year Award in the 33rd annual PLC Awards ceremony. The award has already been safely placed in the trophy cabinet at the company’s head office in Marlow.

When Softcat was established 25 years ago, the founders never imagined that there would be a need for a trophy cabinet. The business was set up to give people a fun and challenging working environment that would bring some shared success. To be recognised as the Company of the Year—from among all Main Market, FTSE 100, FTSE 250, FTSE Small Cap and Fledgling businesses, is a true indicator of how far Softcat has come in a quarter of a century.

The PLC Company of the Year Award focuses on sustainable business and sound strategy. The winning company must show that success is not a short-term phenomenon; it is a business that is professionally managed and one which merges sustainable profitability with resilience and has longevity built in to the business model. In growing from a group of friends looking for a better working experience to becoming the UK’s leading supplier of technology solutions and services—with 8 offices and over 1000 employees—Softcat has proven that the strategy is rock solid.

Graeme Watt, CEO at Softcat, commented, "We are delighted that Softcat continues to be recognised with awards for the IT reseller channel as well as in wider business circles. This award is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful reflection of all the hard work put in across the entire business by everyone at Softcat. We are always striving to do things better in pursuit of further success so it is nice to be recognised for it!"

Softcat would like to thank the PLC Awards for the recognition and would also like to congratulate all of the other shortlisted nominees: MJ Gleeson, Halma, Kainos Group, Spirax-Sarco Engineering, and Whitbread.
