#MyJourneyToSoftcat – Trevor Collier, EUC Team Lead

Trevor C

Tell us about yourself?

I spent 10 years in the British Army conducting various overseas tours before becoming part of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery where I rode in ceremonial events such as Royal birthdays.  Seeking new experiences, I left to start a new career in IT in civvy street. Starting off by providing Desktop Support, over the years my skills and career progressed and I worked for many high-profile customers including NATO, Lockheed Martin and The Bank of England.

What is your current role?

EUC Team Lead

What drew you to apply at Softcat?

I had discovered many good things about Softcat, and from the very first interview I knew that they were different, and that it was a place that I would like to work; giving me the responsibility, freedom and support I needed.

Knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself at the start of the recruitment process?

Research, Research, Research: Before diving in, take a deep breath and research the company thoroughly. Understand their mission, values, and culture. What makes them so successful? What do they expect from their employees? This knowledge will help you tailor your approach and make a really good impression.

How has your Softcat experience been so far and is there anything you’d like to share with us which has been a highlight in your career?

Absolutely brilliant. It’s passed all my expectations with a great culture and great people.

If you have moved in your role whether that is within the team or inter departmental, could you please share your experience about the support that you have been given?

I was made Team leader of EUC about 2 years ago and as always at Softcat I have had the full support and encouragement of senior management, both throughout the assessment process and beyond as I grew in the role.

What advice would you give someone thinking about joining Softcat?

Do it. 100%! If you are willing to work hard and challenge yourself, then you will be rewarded in so many ways. I have never felt so valued within an organisation before and love how you are given credit for everything you have worked hard to achieve.

Are you a part of any community currently?

Yes, I am part of the Armed Forces Veterans community here at Softcat

What do you enjoy the most about being part of this community?

I love supporting military charities and being able to help our staff that are currently involved with the military, be that TA or cadet forces. Leaving the military and entering civvie street can be daunting, but I use my own experience to advise and guide individuals through that transition; something I find hugely satisfying and rewarding.

What are you most proud of in your time at Softcat so far?

Being recognised by several customers after engagements.
