Between the people featured on this page, there is a combined 130 years of experience at Softcat. Many of the individuals below started their careers at Softcat and rose through the ranks. We think both those facts speak volumes for the company.
I joined Softcat in early 2006. I’ve had the pleasure of working with a great team of people and seeing the business grow from around £50M to around £600M in the last nine years. It’s been and continues to be an incredible journey at Softcat and I feel privileged to have been part of it. But there’s a lot more to come yet! Our mission at Softcat is to be the best in our industry in terms of employee satisfaction, customer service and shareholder return. I spend most of my time focussed on trying to ensure the organisation remains fully focussed on those three areas and striving to outperform the industry now and well into the future. Prior to Softcat I enjoyed a long and may I say at least partially successful career with Computacenter in the UK and overseas. It’s fair to say that the IT industry and in particular the channel is a huge part of my life and thirty years on, I still love it. I live in London with my long suffering wife and three fantastic children.
I was absolutely thrilled to take up the opportunity to become Softcat’s Managing Director in 2012. I joined at a time when Softcat’s growth had started to make very significant progress, with the challenge to keep the growth momentum going and at the same time add a dose of experience to the largely home grown management team. It’s been a fantastic experience thus far, and I can honestly say there isn’t another job in the IT industry that I’d rather have than this one. Previous to joining Softcat I had spent four years as General Manager for Services in Microsoft UK, and prior to that some 18 years at Computacenter. My career there started as a bid writer, then I progressed through sales and management roles to run the UK Public Sector business. My final role there was CEO for Computacenter’s German business, which when I left had a turnover of more than €1Bn and more than 4,000 employees. I live near St Albans, with my wife and our two dogs and I have two grown-up daughters who have now flown the nest.
I joined Softcat in January 2015 attracted by a company that clearly had the things I was looking for in spades: terrific growth, fantastic future prospects, and great people. The culture at Softcat has to be experienced to be fully understood, and the virtuous circle of motivation and outstanding results it creates genuinely feels unique. I’ve been fortunate to work for some great companies in the past, spending time in the FTSE100 with Experian and also herding meerkats at privately-owned comparethemarket.com, but moving to Softcat was the easiest decision I’ve yet made in my career. My wife and I currently live near Peterborough with our two fantastic girls and a Golden Retriever called Fonzi (the name seemed like a good idea at the time…), but are looking to move to the Marlow area at some point in 2015.
Having worked in a number of different senior finance roles with Volex plc, Genus plc and Cookson Group plc, I joined Softcat in May 2013 as Finance Director, excited by the growth and dynamism of the company and wanting to help shape further Softcat success. As Softcat continues to grow, and the numbers get bigger, financial management becomes more complex and it is rewarding to work with driven Softcat people to rise to these financial challenges and put in place a framework that enables further profitable growth. After spending 3 years in the US in one of my previous roles, I now live in Guildford with my wife and four kids, whose various sporting pursuits seem to take up all of my time outside of work!
I joined Softcat in 1998 on the Grad Programme, having failed in my attempt to become a rock star. With a degree in Classics under my belt, a career in IT was the obvious route to take! I ran one of the sales teams for a while and then when Martin came on board was given the opportunity to build our services and solutions business. I’ve always been a geek at heart (languages, cars, late 90s heavy metal), so it’s been great to apply that to technology. These days I run our Solutions business - technology specialists, presales and consultancy as well as looking after our overall technology direction.
I joined Softcat in 1999, straight out of Higher Education. Since first walking through the door at Softcat as a fresh-faced 18 year old, I haven’t looked back. Fifteen years later, I can say I have enjoyed many roles at Softcat including Sales Executive, Sales Team Leader, Marlow Sales Manager and most recently I have been promoted to Sales Director. Within this role I am responsible for our fantastic, customer centric and growing sales teams in Marlow, London and Bristol. Working at Softcat has been and continues to be an incredible journey, particularly as the business grows in scale and scope and adapts to the ever evolving technology industry. Above everything else, it’s the people at Softcat that make it a great place to work, and I’m fortunate enough to consider many of my team and colleagues friends outside of work. In my free time, I enjoy playing golf badly and currently live in Penn with my wife and young daughter Maisie.
I joined Softcat in 2011 after spending 15 years working for two of the UK’s largest IT resellers in a number of different roles across the private and public sectors. Upon joining Softcat, and having spent the last 10 years working closely with the UK public sector I was set the aggressive goal of growing Softcat’s small government, education and health businesses to in excess of £100m within 3 years, which I’m pleased to say we achieved ahead of plan. I’m also responsible for the day-to-day management of Softcat’s Northern offices (Manchester and Leeds) and a fantastic, energetic team of over 170 staff across sales, support and specialist functions. Despite being together for over 15 seasons, my wife firmly believes I put my love of Liverpool FC before her. I enjoy spending my spare time with my young son Harrison and 2 crazy dogs.
I joined Softcat in April 2014 and take responsiblity for managing partner relationships and strategy, maximising marketing opportunities and increasing growth of new business and technologies. As they are our largest partner, much of my time is spent managing and co-ordinating our extensive Microsoft relationship and ensuring we are keeping up with or indeed ahead of the rapid changes that a new cloud era brings to the software segment. I have previously worked for Insight EMEA, VERITAS and Symantec. I live in Hertfordshire with my wife and barking mad dog!
I joined Softcat in February 1995 and have been lucky enough to hold a variety of roles over the years. I have headed up Corporate Sales, Public Sector Sales, our Solutions Team, and until recently Managed Services Operations whilst building up a fantastic team as Operations Director. I am responsible for the strategy for Purchasing, Customer Services, Internal IT, Systems Development and our eBusiness Team. It’s a long time at a single company but the variety and responsibility I have been given is what makes it special and over the years the company has evolved so much but equally there is still a lot to do. I live in Cookham Dean with my wife and 3 fantastic kids.
Starting at Softcat in 1994, when the company was only a year old and growing up with the company has been an amazing experience. Working in almost all of the departments has also given me a great insight into the business as a whole, although this changes daily. Starting in Sales Order Processing and moving from Customer Services to a PA and then finally settling in HR and Recruitment almost 10 years ago. Heading up the HR and Recruitment team back in 2007, we’ve seen the company grow from 153 employees to nearly 700, which has been a phenomenal journey. Even after all these years, I couldn’t imagine working anywhere else. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, which mostly includes chasing after my beautiful daughter, which can be just as hectic as a week in the office.
I joined Softcat in January 1996 after qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Anderson in Dublin. During my first 16 years at Softcat, I ( in the role of Finance Director) was responsible for the finance, credit control, legal, and Company Secretarial functions. As a result of Softcat’s rapid growth in Revenue and Profit over the past 4 years, I changed my role in April 2013 to fill the newly created role of Legal & Administration Director. This role encompasses Company Secretarial duties, administration of our many employee share incentive schemes, organising and looking after all legal matters. I am married and we have one amazing son called Patrick. In my spare time I like to keep fit by swimming.
I joined Softcat in 2002 as a graduate Sales Executive. I didn't know what to expect from a career in the IT industry other than I knew it would be fast paced. I found it just that, and immediately found a home in Softcat that feels as special today as it did all those years ago. The company has grown hugely in that time, but we've managed to keep it a fantastic place to work, and I'm proud to be part of the team tasked with making sure that continues. In my 13 years at Softcat I've enjoyed a number of roles including Team Leader and Sales Manager; then in 2010 I was trusted to open our City of London office. I relished the opportunity, if not the commute, but after almost three years, with our firstborn on the way, I returned to Marlow to head up our Solutions Sales teams. Today, these teams cover our abilities in Managed Services, Networking & Security, Datacentre, End-User Computing, Connectivity, Unified Communications, BI & Analytics and Managed Print, so there is never a dull moment! I live locally to Marlow with my wife and our two amazing children.
I joined Softcat in 2005 on the graduate program as an account manager. A career in it sales seemed the perfect mix for skills learned at uni, following a degree in business and IT (and a one year placement with IBM). I've enjoyed a challenging and rewarding time with Softcat and had several promotions in this time including previous roles as team leader, sales manager and head of sales operations. I live in ascot with my wife and 2 young sons, and spare time largely consumed with family activities, such as football and swimming.
