Softcat PLC, the UK and Ireland leading technology reseller and solutions provider, is pleased to announce that its support and contribution to the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been recognised by Support the Goals, a global initiative that recognises business contribution. Softcat is the first FTSE 250 company to receive a five star rating. Support the Goals is a global initiative that was established to rate and recognise businesses that support the SDGs to work towards a more sustainable future. A five star rating is only awarded to organisations who are actively involving their suppliers in their efforts towards reaching these goals. For most businesses, a significant amount of their environmental and social impact comes from the supply chain therefore making it is vitally important to work in partnership with suppliers to understand and support the SDGs.

The United Nations SDGs are a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Agreed in 2015, by world leaders, the support of business is fundamental to the achievement of these goals.

In response to this rating, Alastair Wynn, Operations Director at Softcat, said: “We are delighted to be awarded a 5 Star rating from Support the Goals, underlining our commitment to supporting the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals. We believe that all businesses need to get behind the Global Goals to help create a better world for today, tomorrow and for future generations. Social responsibility is not just a programme of activity, it is what we should be doing every day to drive positive change.” Founder and director of Support the Goals, Colin Curtis says: “If we are to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals we need every business to get behind them. The team at Softcat clearly understand this and it’s great to see that they are encouraging their suppliers to get involved. By using the unique Support the Goals supplier engagement programme they’re providing free advice and guidance on the goals to their suppliers, while also generating valuable work experience for our talented team of University researchers.”
