Explain IT Women In technology

We devote this episode to women in tech, talking to three female leaders in the industry about their journeys to success, as well as how the industry can evolve by encouraging more female representation. Louise Fellows, Public Sector Director at Softcat, Amanda Sleight, Partner lead at AWS and Aleks Lubavs, Northern European Director of Sales at Citrix talk to host Zac Abbott about the impact of greater diversity in the workforce.

  • Only 19% of the IT industry workforce is made up of women. There is still a lot of work to be done to create diversity within the tech sector.
  • It’s important to reflect the diversity of your customer base within the workforce. Diversity brings different ways of thinking and solving problems.
  • For many young women, finding their voice and making sure they’re heard is a challenge. Coaching is important, teaching women to trust themselves and feel confident in sharing their opinion.
  • It’s important to talk to girls at an early age to show the opportunities that are available in tech. You don’t have to be a coder to be in tech, it encompasses a huge raft of skills.
  • Women in tech need to be role models for future talent, to benefit and support female colleagues, identify talent and continue to call out bias. Men play a role in this too, to normalise women in the tech space.
  • The goal is for ‘women in tech’ to become normal, so equality and diversity aren’t even topics to work at; they are the norm across the industry.
