Learning more about mental health might make it easier to be there for someone who needs our help in the future.

As part of 'Health and Wellbeing' week at Softcat, we have dedicated time to raise awareness of mental health wellbeing by training our Managers to help them spot the early signs of mental health in their teams and by raising general awareness across the business. We are really pleased to have worked together with Mind to help us deliver the training which has been so important in ensuring that we can support our employees moving forward. In addition to this, we have had many of our employees share some very personal stories about how they have tackled mental health illness. If they could help even one person, then sharing their story was worthwhile.

Today, Softcat Managing Director, Colin Brown, signed the #TimetoChange pledge in association with Time to Change who are an organisation focused on changing how we all think about mental health. The pledge is Softcat’s commitment to working towards ending the stigma attached to mental health, creating an open and supportive workplace for all, and treating mental ill health in the same way as physical illness. On signing the pledge, Colin Brown said: “At Softcat we see ourselves as a community of people who look after each other, particularly at times of need and difficulty. Our signing of this pledge ensures that employees who are facing these problems feel supported and know where to go in order to get the help they need.”

Tania Diggory, Mental Health Trainer for Mind, has been delivering training for Softcat staff during 'Health and Wellbeing' week: "I've been really pleased to be a part of working with the Softcat Managers and employees in raising awareness of mental health. Everyone has demonstrated a genuine interest in learning more about mental health and how they can support their colleagues further, which is encouraging to witness. It's been great working with an exciting Company where their people really are at the heart of their business."

Mental health is an issue that businesses should not ignore. With 1 in 4 British workers being affected by conditions such as anxiety, depression and stress every year, it is our responsibility to ensure our employees are supported and looked after.
