From 1st July 2015, Microsoft’s on-premise User CAL (client access license) pricing will increase by approximately 15% across all on-premises CALs when licensed Per User. The increase will come into effect across volume licensing programs, including academic and government.

Customers have four months to review their existing licensing before the changes take effect, and Softcat is urging those with any questions about the new pricing to get in touch with their account managers.

Any customers that have purchased user CALs on a fixed price contract (Enterprise Agreement, ESA, SCE, OVS, OVP) won’t be affected.

To avoid the price increase, customers can:

  • Sign a new fixed-price agreement before 1st July 2015
  • License CAL Suites on a per-device basis (device CALS won’t increase in price.)
  • Purchase Cloud suites (Office 365 Enterprise, Enterprise Mobility Suite and Enterprise Cloud Suite) that provide dual access to both online services and on-premises server software. With this option, customers will also benefit from additional enterprise functionality and a user centric licensing model
  • Lock in the price of any additional user CAL products that they require over the course of their agreement before the price increase

Softcat's dedicated Microsoft licensing team is on hand to help customers understand and navigate the changes. For more information please contact your Softcat account manager or call 01628 403403.
