On Friday night, Softcat staff, friends, family and vendors poured into London’s prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel for the IT reseller’s annual charity May Ball. The event, which sold out weeks ago, ran from 7pm-1am and raised £236,000 for national children’s charity Dreams Come True.

The 940 guests enjoyed an auction and a raffle, turns from two comedians Lee Nelson and Stewart Francis, and performances from Britain’s Got Talent winners Spelbound and FISH percussion. DJ Charlie Hedges finished off the evening with a set that had guests hitting the dance floor.

Softcat’s charity team thanked vendors for their generous sponsorship, with NetCrowd, Northamber, Dell, Exclusive Networks, Samsung, QlikTech, Syscap, EMC, ASM Technologies, Lenovo and McAfee getting special mentions.

“When we were told the final amount we were stunned,” said Charlie Harman from Softcat’s charity team. “We knew we’d had some very generous donations from our partners and vendors but it was a shock to see that final figure. On behalf of the charity team thank you so much to everyone who attended and/or donated – your money is going to a great cause at Dreams Come True.”

Chairman Martin Hellawell congratulated the charity team for arranging the star-studded event and thanked staff and partners alike for their input. “It’s become a bit of a given now that we all go a bit nuts for charity here at Softcat, but it still stuns me every year how deep our own employees dig at events like the May Ball. Our partners too have shown massive support, so a big thank you to them.”
