Softcat has ranked second in the prestigious Great Place to Work ‘Best Workplaces’ awards for the second year running. The award, announced at a gala dinner on 13th May, is testament to Softcat’s ability to maintain outstanding levels of employee satisfaction as it has grown by 28% over the past year while recruiting hundreds of new staff. Softcat was ranked in the large category, which is judged against companies with 500 staff or more.

On top of the Best Workplaces listing, Great Place to Work honoured Softcat with the ‘Delivering Excellence in Leadership’ special award, in the large business category, also for the second year in a row.

“Workplace satisfaction comes from your employees being well led and well managed. This creates strong followership, and achieving the Great Place To Work leadership award at the same time as coming second again in the Best Workplaces large category listing underlines that this is definitely true for us,” said Colin Brown, Softcat’s managing director. “We tend to promote people internally rather than hire outside the company, which enables managers to relate well to their team, and it also inspires employees to work hard and move on up. Our managers and directors sit amongst teams 100% of the time, and this approachability is key to good employee engagement.”

He continued: “We feel privileged to have been given this double award, and I believe that this will further reinforce our sense of pride and satisfaction with our workplace – as well as attracting more like-minded people. We’ve always built our culture around the needs of our employees, which has proved a successful recruitment and business strategy; happy Softcat people results in happy customers and continued business success.”

The Great Place to Work ranking recognises the company as having a high trust, high engagement workplace culture which attracts and retains talent and helps drive business success. The methodology behind the award ranking is one of the most rigorous available and uniquely comprises both an employee survey and an audit into organisations’ management and HR practices. To be successful, participating organisations must achieve a high minimum score in their employee survey, a survey that measures the levels of employee trust and engagement.

Softcat rewards its staff with incentive trips abroad, uncapped commission for sales staff, world-class training, and a package of industry-leading benefits. It also prioritises its social responsibility, encouraging employees to support good causes with fund raising initiatives. Its aim is to make coming to work as enjoyable as possible, to make its employees want to stay, and to perform well.
