Months after being named the UK's 'Best Workplace' and the 5th 'Best Workplace in Europe' by the Great Place to Work Institute, Softcat has been named 'Best Company to Work For' at this year's CRN Sales and Marketing Awards 2016. The awards ceremony, held last night at The Brewery in London, recognises the achievements of individuals and teams that make the UK IT channel truly great. At the same event, Softcat was also shortlisted for the 'Best Apprenticeship Scheme' award.

The CRN Sales and Marketing Awards are the only awards dedicated to the sales and marketing teams that underpin the success of IT organisations. It focuses on recognising and rewarding innovation, evolution, and development. Winning CRN's 'Best Company to Work For' award demonstrates how Softcat works to embody these qualities.

Two of Softcat's Apprentice Managers, Laura Sneath and Scott Seaman, accepted the award last night on behalf of Softcat. Proudly commenting on receiving the accolade, Softcat chief executive, Martin Hellawell said, "We're very pleased to receive this award. I've worked in the IT reseller market for over 25 years and love this part of the industry. To be recognised by the leading trade publication for what we care about most means a lot to me. The credit for the award very much goes to the 950 employees of the company who through their passion, camaraderie and positivity, make this a great place to work. But we certainly don't think winning this accolade means we have achieved our objective. We still have an awful lot of work to do and we have to rethink everything constantly to ensure we stay fresh and ahead of the game.

I'm also very pleased that the apprenticeship scheme made the short list of its respective category. A lot of work has gone into the development of this programme and it's great to see the efforts of the people who run it, and the apprentices, being recognised."

This was the first time that the CRN Sales and Marketing awards had featured a category for apprenticeship schemes and highlights a growing trend in the industry to employ and develop school leavers. Softcat offers four qualifications and has designed its scheme to ensure that apprentices acquire the right knowledge at the right stages of their development.

In 2014, Softcat took on six sales apprentices within its public sector team as a pilot project. On the back of this success, it expanded the programme in 2015 employing another 17 youngsters. In August 2016 Softcat plans to recruit 30 new apprentices across the business, covering internal IT, eBusiness, purchasing, customer services and sales.
