On Friday night, Softcat staff, friends, family and business partners poured into London’s prestigious Grosvenor House Hotel for the IT company’s annual charity May Ball. The sell-out event raised £300,000 surpassing last year’s total of £236,000. The main benefactor of the event will be Dreams Come True, Softcat’s charity of the year for the third year in succession.

Over 900 glammed-up guests enjoyed a champagne reception, exquisite dining experience, alongside a host of great entertainment, auction and raffle. With previous events boasting such a quality line-up, this year’s bar was certainly set high.

Compere for the evening, X-Factor’s Peter Dickson, treated event goers to an array of talent, including last year’s Britain’s Got Talent finalist Darcy Oake, and the fantastic FISH percussion. Supported by Softcat’s very own Tom Hayhoe and Tal Gandhum, Kiss FM’s Charlie Hedges rounded off the night in style, with a DJ set that had guests hitting the dance floor until the small hours.

Renowned auctioneer Jonny Gould took to the stage to auction off various weird and wonderful prizes, including a Top Gear driving experience, African safari, and signed One Direction dolls.

Account director, Charlie Harman, who co-organised the event with Michael Walker for the fifth year running, said: “Every year it becomes increasingly difficult to outdo the last, and every year we surprise ourselves; the acts were incredible, the support from our staff and partners has been out of this world, and everyone had a great time. A massive thank you to everyone who kindly donated raffle prizes, to those who helped us plan the ball, and to everyone who came along and donated to Dreams Come True.”

Softcat’s charity team thanked vendors for their generous sponsorship, with HP, Northamber, Dell, Daisy Group, The Content Wall, Lenovo, Arrow, Checkpoint, Clearswift, Juniper, Cisco and Imago getting special mentions.

Colin Brown, managing director, said: “The May Ball is our showcase charity event of the year, and it’s amazing that we can raise so much money for a good cause, surpassing even last year’s figure. This event is testament to our amazing staff and partners, who continue to pull out all the stops to make a positive difference. He added, “This is our third consecutive year supporting Dreams Come True. Our staff selected the charity, because of all the amazing work they continue to deliver. We believe the charity has a similar work ethic to Softcat – they’re hardworking and looking to grow further to make a positive difference.”

The event follows on from Softcat’s success at the Great Place To Work awards, where the company was voted no.2 best workplace for the second consecutive year.
