About the role
Our Systems Team is looking for an Apprentice Systems Support Developer, to support them in ensuring our key business systems and their users are well supported and that we evolve our systems to meet the ever changing needs of the business.
The role will involve working within our development team where you will learn about our existing systems, databases and data structures which will enable you to pick up technical support issues and service requests which you will be responsible for actioning. This will be done initially with the full support of the existing team but as your knowledge and confidence grows, you will be able to take this work on independently. The work will mainly be carried out on SQL Server so you will primarily be developing SQL skills and analytical skills such as how to carry out root cause analysis.
In time via the apprentice training plan you will be able to transition into a Support Developer role at which point you will be making coding changes to the environment and you will be picking up small projects which will require you to code new solutions. This will begin to cover all elements of the requirements capture, design, build, test and release cycle.
Our apprenticeship programme runs for 24 months, when you’ll gain all the skills you need to make the transition towards becoming a fully qualified developer.
The remit of this role will include but not be limited to:
You will have an interest in IT Development or Programming and ideally have some exposure to a programming language. You’ll have a keen eye for detail, work well within a team and have the ability to solve problems in a structured and methodical manner. Self motivation is key, as is being self-motivated with an on-going desire to expand your knowledge in related areas.
Ideal qualifications / experience
To be successful in this role, you’ll need a passion for IT, a desire to learn and have a positive can-do attitude. You’ll be a great team player and enjoy interacting with people. Ideally you’ll have studied IT or ICT at school, college etc.
