Softcat is excited to invite you to our GDPR Preparation Seminar at The Brewery, London, where we'll provide an overview of how to start preparing your organisation for GDPR compliance and look at some appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data.

Over the morning, we’ll look at four areas (Assess, Secure, Manage and Process) and explore how these different aspects come together to support your organisation's GDPR strategy - from business level risk assessments through to data classification, security controls and ongoing policies and processes.

Agenda:

9:00-9:30 – Registration and Refreshments

9:30-10:00 - Assessing your business-level risk, Sean Huggett, CEO & GDPR Practitioner, CyberCrowd

  • Recap of GDPR – A brief history of data protection laws and how this is different
  • How risk is dependent on the data your organisation holds
  • How the type of data you hold can impact on individual’s rights and freedoms

10:00-10:30 - Managing and understanding your data, Katie Efde, Data Management Specialist, Softcat

  • Understanding what data you have and the risk associated with this data
  • Retention policies – keep or delete?
  • Data Availability – where is the data I need? Backups? What is the process for recovery?
  • When will I be asked for SARs? What is reasonable?

10:30-11:00 - Controlling the security around your data, Adam Louca, Lead Architect - Security, Softcat

  • Protecting the data and your platform using a framework approach to under risk and controls
  • Data diagram – Understanding the content and context of the data and how that flows into your environment
  • Encryption – Ensure and enforce strong access boundaries.
  • Data lifecycle, building out retention and data protection in reverse

11:00-11:15 – Tea & Coffee Break
11:15-11:45 Process and policies for GDPR, Mark Overton, Data Protection Manager, Softcat

  • Raising awareness of data protection inside the company
  • Addressing some of the core requirements such as keeping a register of activities
  • Layered privacy notices

11:45-12:15 Audience Q&A with panel
12:15-1:00 – Networking and lunch

Getting there

Travelling to the Brewery by public transport is quick and easy. It is close to Liverpool Street, Moorgate and Barbican stations, and served by at least 10 bus routes.

There are no car parking facilities on site at The Brewery. The nearest public NCP car park can be found at The Barbican.There is also limited pay and display street parking available.
