Adobe has announced that it is removing all Creative Suite 6 (CS6) products from its volume licensing offering. To take advantage of a current Adobe promotion, all government and commercial customers holding perpetual licenses will need to switch to the Creative Cloud subscription licenses by May 30th.The promotion entitles current CS3 and later customers a heavily discounted migration price to the Creative Cloud for each licence that they currently own. These changes will not affect Education customers.

Since the introduction of subscription purchasing in 2012, Adobe has amassed 1.84 million Creative Cloud subscribers and implemented over 500 updates to its creative products. It recently announced that CS6 will be the last version sold as a perpetual license. This is a huge change in the way Adobe sells its licences, and any customers who wish to continue to benefit from future software updates will need to switch to Creative Cloud.

Peter Ollerenshaw, Softcat’s Adobe Creative Cloud Specialist, recommends the new cloud model for all creative products going forward: “From May 30th this year our commercial and government customers will no longer be able to purchase perpetual licenses for Adobe Creative Suite 6. Adobe Creative Cloud has had fantastic feedback from our customers and the industry in general. This announcement marks a real statement of intent in the way Adobe will continue to deliver its creative products for the foreseeable future. We recommend all our customers to make the switch to Creative Cloud subscriptions in order to benefit from continued software updates, and to be eligible for the promotional CS3+ migration discount which expires on May 30th.”

He added, “Our Education customers won’t be affected, but all other customers will receive a significant discount provided they migrate to the Creative Cloud subscription model by the expiry date. Please contact your account manager to discuss your options.”
