Ahead of its release later this year, Microsoft has today announced a number of changes to the format and pricing of Visual Studio 2015.
The primary development comes from the consolidation of the four versions currently in market to three main Visual Studio 2015 versions. Premium and Ultimate will be replaced with Visual Studio Enterprise with Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) which will include all the features currently in Ultimate plus additional features new to 2015. Microsoft will continue to offer Visual Studio Community 2015 and Visual Studio Professional 2015 with MSDN, both of which will include a number of new features.

For customers looking to upgrade, Microsoft has confirmed that customers with active Visual Studio Premium with MSDN or Visual Studio Ultimate with MSDN will receive an automatic upgrade to the new Visual Studio Enterprise with MSDN. Similarly, Visual Studio Premium with MSDN customers will maintain the current pricing until the end of the year without the need to pay more to upgrade to the 2015 Enterprise version.

Microsoft reports significant savings for customers looking to move to the new platform; the cost of Visual Studio 2015 Enterprise with MSDN on volume licensing will be up to 43% cheaper than the price of the comparable Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate SKUs (dependant on licensing agreement). For retail customers this saving extends up to 55%. Furthermore, customers who currently have Visual Studio 2013 Professional with MSDN or Visual Studio 2013 Test Professional with MSDN can purchase Step Up to Premium in May and June at a 50% discount and will receive Enterprise 2015 (formally Ultimate) without additional cost on release.
