Route Directions

Universal Square is located on Devonshire Street, in Ardwick. The site is about a mile from Manchester City Centre and is easily reached by car, public transport or on foot.

Car:  In regards to parking there are options for those choosing to travel to Universal Square by car, namely; secure parking on site and on street parking.  Universal Square is located on a generous plot of land, which has a substantial amount of secure, private car parking spaces currently totalling 850 spaces.  There is also a generous short term visitors’ car park on site.  On the streets surrounding Universal Square there is a large amount of unrestricted on street parking, which would be potentially available to anyone choosing to travel by car.  This includes a large number of streets where there is no / little residential development.

Rail:  Universal Square is well served by railway and train services.  Ardwick Station is located directly adjacent to the building.  Accessed off Blind Lane, the station entrance is less than 150m from the Universal Square’s main entrance.  Piccadilly Station, which offers a huge range of routes and services both locally and nationally, is situated just over 1km from Universal Square approximately 15 minutes walk away or a few minutes on any of the aforementioned bus routes.

Metrolink:  It is also possible to travel to Universal Square by using the Metrolink.  The nearest stop is Piccadilly Station, which as above, can be reached on foot or bus from Universal Square.

Walking:  Walking to Universal Square from the centre of Manchester, takes approximately 20 minutes from Piccadilly Gardens, in the heart of the city. Piccadilly Station is a 15 minute walk and the Hospital and University area on Oxford Road is just over 10 minutes away.

Bicycle:  Secure cycle storage facilities are available for use, including cycle hoops located adjacent to the main entrance on Devonshire Street overlooked by a 24hr manned reception desk and covered by CCTV.  There are also bicycle racks located within the site accessible to building users. To supplement the bicycle storage a range of showering facilities are distributed throughout the building, including fully accessible shower facilities within the ground floor lobby.

Bus:  There are a wide number of bus services that stop within 500m of Universal Square, which serve Manchester City Centre and its wider surroundings.  These are:

•173 – Manchester to Stepping Hill Hospital
•192 – Manchester to Stepping Hill Hospital / Hazel Grove
•201 – Manchester to Hattersley
•203 – Manchester to Stockport
•204 – Manchester to Hyde
•205 – Manchester to Dane Bank
•206 – Manchester to Gee Cross
•219 – Manchester to Stalybridge
•220 – Manchester to Tameside Hospital
•221 – Manchester to Dukinfield
Taxi:  Universal Square benefits from an undercover taxi drop-off point adjacent to the
main entrance. 

Taxis for hire frequently travel along Devonshire Street or can be ordered (within minutes)
from the main reception.
